ATHENS, Greece / AsiaWire.IO / – Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has begun an official visit to Greece after arriving in Athens. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis welcomed him at Athens International Airport. Sheikh Khaled is visiting at the invitation of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with whom he is expected to hold key talks. The trip focuses on expanding bilateral cooperation in areas of shared priority.

This year marks five decades of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Greece, which were established in 1976. The relationship has developed beyond traditional diplomatic cooperation into a comprehensive strategic partnership. It now covers the economy, investment, energy and technology. Artificial intelligence, advanced technology, clean energy and digital infrastructure are emerging as new areas of collaboration between the two countries.

A large official delegation is travelling with the Crown Prince. Major General Pilot Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, is among its members. So is Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoon bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court. Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, also joined the trip.

Delegation spans trade, investment, culture and health

UAE ministers on the visit include Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade. Minister of Investment Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi is also part of the group, along with Ghanem Sultan Alsuwaidi, Advisor of Security Affairs at the Crown Prince Court. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, and Mansour Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, are accompanying Sheikh Khaled.

The delegation further includes Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Office of the Crown Prince. Maryam Eid AlMheiri, Chairperson of Abu Dhabi Media Office and Advisor of Strategic Relations at the Crown Prince Court, is also present. Dr Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, the UAE’s Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic, joins the official party in Athens.

Business forum explores new UAE-Greece partnerships

Investopia Mediterranean – Athens is taking place alongside the official visit. The event aims to strengthen economic and investment cooperation between the two countries. It brings together government officials and business leaders to explore new partnerships. Sectors in focus include food security, logistics and supply chains, as well as investments that enhance competitiveness and sustainable development.

The Athens visit builds on close contacts between the two nations’ leaders. In May, UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed Mitsotakis for high-level talks in Abu Dhabi. Their discussions covered the economy, investment, technology, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, sustainability, infrastructure and culture. The two leaders have also spoken by phone several times this year.
